Blue Nile, Maban communities reconcile after Gendrasa clashes

A reconciliation process has begun between the Maban community and Blue Nile refugees at Yusuf Batil camp in Upper Nile following weeks of disputes.

Commissioner Timatu Nau told Radio Tamazuj that the reconciliation was headed by the executive director in the county. He said the authorities managed to resolve the dispute between the two communities.

The official further said the program was also supported the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and other organizations operating in the area.

He pointed out that the two feuding communities decided to forget about the incident that took place between them for the sake of peace and stability in the area.

When asked about a demand to transport the Blue Nile refugees to other areas far away from the host community, Timato explained such a decision can only be taken by the national government in Juba, not the local authorities.

In early February, a farmer from Maban community was shot dead and a Blue Nile refugee was killed when clashes erupted between the displaced and host communities at Gendrasa camp in Maban.
