Blue Nile insurgents accuse Khartoum of massacre

The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM-N) in Blue Nile accused government-aligned forces in Bao Locality of carrying out a massacre under direct orders from the Commissioner Daffala Elmak Adok. Three men were allegedly killed and dozens injured in an attack on Mideim village.

A statement released Sunday by the insurgents claims that the Bao County Commissioner gave directives to pro-government militias to attack the residents of Mideim village.

The civilians Faisal Masafa, Mahmoud Nassir Tia and Hassan Juma Tia were killed in the attack, according to the statement, while more than 80 others were wounded in random shooting.

SPLM-N claims that that the militias, under the direction of Abdul Rahman Hassan (Jireiwa) and led by Ahmed Elhadi, mobilized Arab nomads and armed them with Land Cruisers from Bao County.

The statement also went on to say that a certain Ismail Koura was mandated to mobilize the nomad Fellata tribes, a certain Saudi to mobilize the Watawit, and a certain Faiz Balla to mobilize the Salkawi tribes. Additionally, the statement asserted that the commissioner of Bao, Daffala Adok, had held a visit at Moreik village to issue orders for ethnic cleansing of the Ingessana tribe.

Authorities handed over corpses of the victims to their family members in Damazin, the state capital and a former SPLM-N stronghold before the military takeover in September 2011. The families then rented trucks to take the deceased to Mideim. The statement also said that some criminals who were behind the incident in Mideim village were arrested but the commissioner ordered their release.
