Governors of Sudan’s Blue Nile state and Ethiopia’s Beni Shangul region have concluded a meeting in Asosa town to enhance cooperation between the two areas.
The Blue Nile state governor Hussein Yassin Hamad and the Beni Shangul regional governor Ahmed Nasser signed the final draft of the recommendations of the meeting.
The joint meeting recommended the halt of goods smuggling to Yabus area, which is controlled by SPLA-N, and opening of safe corridors for pastoralists as well as the fight against the smuggling of arms, ammunition and drugs.
The two sides also agreed to activate customs posts in the border areas to encourage investors and facilitate the movement of labourers in accordance with the right procedures.
In his remarks to the press, the Blue Nile governor emphasized the need for cultural exchange and joint programs in scientific research and training fields between the University of Blue Nile and the University of Asosa.
He noted they also touched on the role of native administrations in resolving border problems as well as the exchange of information about the movement of border trade.
