Blood drive in Abyei leads to drop in mortality rate

A blood donation campaign has led to a drop in mortality rates, according to the MSF hospital in Agok.

In August, lab technician John Bosco said that 43 individuals donated 34 units of blood.

“We have used up those units and have saved many lives," Bosco said.

But health workers in the facility say that blood is still in high demand because of malaria cases.

Next Saturday MSF will launch the second blood donation drive under the theme “Every Blood Donor Is A Hero”.

Doctors stress that malaria prevention and good nutrition are key factors in resisting diseases and reducing the need for blood transfusion.
