The Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Juba has on Sunday during his homily called on the rich to share with the poor in the country this Lent as the nation faces economic hardship.

“If you are able to detect that your own neighbors have not cooked for three days and you’re aware that no fire has ever been lit for the next house please share. Do not say that things are now difficult therefore I have to accumulate,” said Bishop Santo Laku Pious.

He said being charitable means sharing the little with the needy, adding that there is no use to keep food when others are dying.

“In South Sudan there are people who are eating four times a day, there are people who are eating three times a day yet in this same country there are people who are staying for three or four days without food,” the bishop said.

“Even if you deny that people are dying in South Sudan… Gods knows that there are his people who are sleeping hungry,” Laku added

He also complained that South Sudanese have been told to cultivate but the bush is occupied by gunmen and cows of armed pastoralists are roaming fields destroying crops.
