Swarms of birds have invaded farmlands in South Sudan’s Fashoda State, destroying crops that were due for harvest, according to farmers.
Joseph Barsham, head of the farmers union, told Radio Tamazuj on Friday that sorghum farmers in Akurwa County are the worst hit.
He explained that the birds descended on more than 20 farms in the county, pointing out that they couldn’t scare the birds away.
Barsham called on the relevant authorities to intervene as soon as possible.
Sorghum is the main crop cultivated with a wide range in the state.
