Local residents of Waat town in Bieh State attended a peace rally organized by the state government on Wednesday to disseminate peace in the area.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, the state information minister, James Yien said the mass meeting was organized to brief the locals on the implementation of the peace agreement after the rival parties missed the November 12 deadline.
“The rally was attended by citizens from the 11 counties and government officials from Juba including Presidential Advisor Gabriel Yoal. The locals were briefed on the 100 days extension and the outstanding issues,” he explained.
The government official urged the Lou Nuer community to be optimistic as the national government and the opposition seek to end the impasse over the number of states and their boundaries.
President Kiir and opposition leaders missed the November 12 deadline to form a unity government and agreed to give themselves another 100 days to form the government.
President Salva Kiir, opposition leader Riek Machar and a handful of other groups signed the peace deal in September 2018. However the parties have failed to create a unified army and determine the number of states since the deal was signed.
