A security committee member at the UN Protection of Civilians’ site (PoC) in Bentiu town in South Sudan’s Northern Liech State said the security situation in the camp has returned to normal after incidents of insecurity caused by armed groups.
In late September, a group of five gunmen staged an attack on the U.N. peacekeepers' base, killing at least one civilian and seriously injuring five more.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, Yohanes Gatjiath said the deteriorating security situation in the camp prompted internally displaced persons to stage peaceful protests recently demanding more protection from the UN peacekeepers in the camp.
He explained that following the protests the UN started to carry out night patrols within the camp, a move that he said has greatly improved the security situation in the camp.
