The Minister of Youth and Culture in the proposed Northern Liech State in South Sudan’s Unity accused armed opposition forces of attacking villagers in Juac area, about 40 kilometers away from Rubkona area on Sunday.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, Lam Tungwar Kueigwong said a civilian was killed and two SPLA soldiers were wounded, but one died later.
“They attacked an area inhabited by civilians and they were defeated there until they reach an area near Bentiu where the SPLA forces intervened. So in the fighting one civilian was killed and two SPLA soldiers were wounded,” said Tungwar.
He claimed the opposition forces have continuously attacked areas controlled by the government in violation of the signed peace agreement.
The state official expressed concern about the security of government officials in Northern Liech state. Radio Tamazuj couldn’t reach opposition officials to comment on Tungwar’s claim.
