The road linking Northern Liech and Southern Liech states has been renovated and is open for use since Friday, a government official said.
Southern Liech state deputy governor, Larika Machar told Radio Tamazuj on Sunday that the road between Bentiu and Leer was rendered impassable for years due to its poor state and insecurity caused by the conflict.
"This road will facilitate the freedom of movement of citizens and the commercial movement between Northern and Southern states of Liech,” he said.
Machar added, "this road is very important and will contribute to the transfer of goods from Pariang to Leer and Bentiu, and therefore citizens will not face the crisis of high prices of goods again.”
The official also thanked the UN forces on the ground for their continued support in development projects in the region.
In January the Indian engineers serving with UNMISS launched rehabilitation work on the 145KM main road linking Bentiu and Leer, whose poor condition had made it impassable for the past three years. The road is expected to ease travel and delivery of humanitarian assistance.
