A 17-year-old girl committed suicide by hanging herself in Sector Five, Block Six in the Bentiu IDP camp of Unity State on Monday night.
The deputy commander of the joint forces in the camp, David Matut Both, confirmed the incident to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday.
He said the reasons for the girl taking her life were unclear and that the police were investigating the matter.
The deceased was identified as Nyadeny Luony Kai, from Tutyang Payam in Mayendit County.
Her uncle ruled out forced marriage as the reason for the suicide, saying no one had forced her into such a union.
The girl was a finalist in primary school, the uncle said.
