Bentiu Diocese Catholic Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Christian Carlassare, has called on all parishes in Unity State to mobilize resources to assist those seeking refuge in Agook Payam of the Ruweng Administrative Area (RAA) following violent attacks in Abiemnhom County.
Bishop Carlassare expressed concern for the well-being of affected families suffering without aid. He urged parishes to hold special collections on the Fifth Sunday of Lent to support the displaced.
He noted that around 1,000 civilians in Agook are struggling without food, relying on the generosity of locals who share the little they have.
“I invite all the Catholic faithful of our diocese to pray even more intensely for peace, as we are all wounded by this act of violence and feel the pain of our brothers and sisters in Abiemnhom,” Bishop Carlassare said.
“I ask our parishes to make a special collection this Fifth Sunday of Lent to help our displaced Christians in Agook. We want to show true solidarity with our brothers. Each parish priest should collect this heartfelt gift and send it to Fr. Bulus Reth in Agook,” he added.
The violence against innocent civilians has had a devastating impact on Abiemnhom’s population, with over 10,000 people reportedly fleeing to neighboring areas, including Warrap and the Abyei Administrative Area.
