On Monday president Bashir said he will not negotiate with South Sudan as they only ‘understand the language of guns and ammunition.’
A Sudanese army commander Kamal Abdul Maarouf that led battles in Heglig said the army killed 1,200 South Sudanese soldiers, a number South Sudan denies.
Vice president Ali Osman Taha said the government is determined to impose a state of emergency in the border areas with South Sudan to stop the smuggling of food supplies into ‘enemy territory’.
He said the emergency law should be modified to give powers to those working at the border to kill smugglers.
