South Sudan’s Foreign Minister Barnaba Marial Benjamin, who is visiting Khartoum, is expected to conclude bilateral talks with his Sudanese counterpart Ibrahim Ghandour today.
Marial arrived Thursday last week in Khartoum on a four-day visit.
In a statement to the Sudanese state-run radio, Barnaba said they wanted the Khartoum government to play a major role in supporting the peace process in South Sudan. Barnaba reiterated his government’s commitment to implementing the peace agreement signed with the opposition in August last year.
Marial pointed out that his visit to the capital Khartoum came at the invitation of his counterpart Ibrahim Ghandour.
He explained that they held talks on bilateral relations between the two countries, adding the talks also touched on outstanding issues and the Joint Cooperation Agreement signed in September 2012 between the two Sudans.
The meetings also discussed peace implementation, good neighborliness, peaceful coexistence, and opening of common borders, according the top South Sudanese diplomat. The visiting foreign minister also participated in the festivities of Sudan’s Independence Day.
