Barmayen hospital runs out of medicines: official

Barmayen primary health care center in South Sudan’s Aweil State has run out of drugs for patients, a local official said.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Saturday, Barmayen county commissioner, Kon Achuil, said the facility is well-built, but lacks enough medicines for people who require health services in the area.

“The hospital with its capacities is good because it hosts many people who are far from town. Drugs that come from Aweil are for three months. If they get finished the ministry brings others, but now the number of people is increasing,” he said.

According to the commissioner, the state health ministry supplies the health care center with consignments for three months, but the increasing numbers of patients daily had made this inadequate.

He appealed to the state ministry of health to increase consignments of drugs and provide them with an ambulance to help them refer patients in critical conditions to Aweil hospital.

The center was established and inaugurated by the national health ministry in 2017 with support from the government of Canada.
