Ban Ki-moon to visit Juba PoC site

Spokesman of the UN Secretary General Stephane Dujarric announced in New York yesterday that Ban Ki-moon will visit a Protection of Civilians site in Juba, South Sudan.

Spokesman of the UN Secretary General Stephane Dujarric announced in New York yesterday that Ban Ki-moon will visit a Protection of Civilians site in Juba, South Sudan.

The visit is part of a three-stop trip in Congo and South Sudan, according to Dujarric.

“Over the weekend, the Secretary-General will leave New York for a visit to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Sudan,” said the spokesman.

He is expected to be in Goma on 23 February to visit people impacted by the insecurity in the region, then the next day he will be in Kinshasa for the opening session of the Great Lakes Private Sector Investment Conference.

“On 25 February, the Secretary-General will leave Kinshasa for Juba, South Sudan, where he is expected to meet with President Salva Kiir and visit a Protection of Civilians’ site that is run by the UN Mission in that country (UNMISS),” said Dujarric.

This would be Ban Ki-moon’s first visit to South Sudan since May 2014, when he visited the Tongping protection site, an area where ethnic Nuers fled after killings in Juba in December 2013.
