Western Equatoria State Governor Bangasi Joseph Bakosoro condemned a recent attack carried out by youths on an SPLA force in Nyaka Boma, in Yambio County, according to reports by local radio stations.
In remarks to both Radio Anisa in Yambio and Radio Miraya, the governor said that one soldier was killed at Nyaka Boma in Western Equatoria. He said that he has instructed commissioners to step up security.
“I am very disappointed with this behavior and I am warning all the youth wherever they are, in case they are misbehaving like this, I think the law will take its course. Because the youth should not misbehave like in other areas where youth mobilize themselves go and attack government soldiers,” said Bakosoro on Radio Miraya.
“I wholeheartedly condemn that act and I am requesting that whoever did that should be brought to book.”
Radio Miraya also reported that four soldiers were injured in the attack at Nyaka Boma.
The governor has directed the Yambio County Commissioner to carry out an investigation to bring people involved in the Nyaka Boma attack to justice. He urged all county commissioners, Arrow Boys’ leaders, security agents and chiefs to call on youths to behave, Radio Anisa reported.
Meanwhile, the Defense Minister has testified before the Council of States to explain fresh insecurity in Western Equatoria. He downplayed claims that there was a ‘rebellion’ in the state. But other officials have contradicted him, saying the forces that clashed with SPLA in Mundri West County recently are organized rebels.
