The newly appointed minister of public service has vowed that his ministry’s ultimate target is to reduce the unemployment rate of the youth.
Minister Bangasi Joseph Bakosoro made the remarks on Monday after the swearing-in ceremony in Juba.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Bakosoro said he will meet with technocrats at the ministry to tackle youth unemployment in the country.
“If we study and we get to know from the technocrats, then we will be able to tell you that I will do differently,” he added.
The South Sudanese politician expressed concern over the high unemployment rate in the country, saying he will work to make some changes in the ministry.
“There are so many youth who are not employed, so what is the problem? This is something that we will look at seriously,” he stressed.
In 2019, the estimated youth unemployment rate in South Sudan was at 12.70 percent.
According to estimates, 72 per cent of South Sudan’s 12.4 million population are 30 years old and below.
