Bakhita Radio director calls for freedom of expression to be protected

Josephine Achiro, director of the Catholic radio station Bakhita FM said restriction on freedom of expression should be lifted in South Sudan.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj yesterday, Achiro said restrictions on media will affect journalists who are working in the country, saying female journalists face enormous challenges due to limited freedoms, besides the discrimination against women in some communities in South Sudan.

She further said low wages for journalists, besides the deteriorating economic and security situations affect the performance of South Sudanese journalists.

Achiro revealed that Bakhita Radio provides capacity-building trainings for female journalists in collaboration with some NGOs, while urging international organizations that are supporting media to provide training opportunities for female journalists in South Sudan.
