Residents of Bahr Girinti County in South Sudan’s Amadi State are facing a severe shortage of clean drinking water, a local official said.
The County Commissioner, Emmanuel Majok Brown told Radio Tamazuj Friday that there is only one hand pump at the county headquarters.
“We had two [hand pumps], but one broke down, so there is a challenge getting clean water,” he said.
He further said the return of more than 150 household from Mvolo County, pointing out that clean water sources were not enough for residents of his area.
“Now people from Mvolo have come back and there is not enough drinking water,” stressed Majok.
The commissioner urged non-governmental organizations in the area to intervene and ensure people in the county access clean water.
He also decried the poor healthcare services in his county’s payams.
“There are diseases due to lack of clean water because people drink directly from the river,” said Majok.
He said the security situation is stable, except for some cattle theft cases.
