A five-month-old girl was killed and four people injured after a motorcycle was involved in a grisly accident in Amadi Payam of Mundri West County in Western Equatoria State on Thursday.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Friday, the traffic police inspector in Greater Mundri Major Abraham Tong said a motorcycle carrying four people hit a nine-year-old deaf girl, instantly killing the infant who was carried by the mother.
"On Thursday around 3 PM, we got information at the traffic department about an accident in Amadi Payam. A motorcycle rider who was carrying a woman and her baby and another girl on their way to Juba knocked a nine-year-old deaf girl who was trying to escape from the motorcycle," Tong said. "Unfortunately, she was knocked down but the baby of five months died."
Maj. Tong added that the other four who were injured were rushed to Lui Hospital for treatment.
He blamed the motorcycle rider for overspeeding causing the deadly accident.
"My message to the motorcycle riders is that in our traffic law no one should carry four or five people in the motorcycle, that is wrong. Some people do not understand because we keep talking about this issue and it keeps happening," Maj. Tong added.
