Youths of Bananusa Locality in Sudan’s West Kordofan state launched a social peace initiative between the Awlad Omran and Zeyut clans of the Misseriya Humr tribe in the state.

In June, the Awlad Omran and Zeyut clans signed a truce after clashes over a piece of land that left more than 44 tribesmen dead from the two sides.

Youth leader Jadid Mahmoud told Radio Tamazuj Monday that the youths have come up with an initiative to put an end to the differences between the two feuding clans.

Mahmoud stressed the importance of social peace in West Kordofan state. He accused the local authorities of limiting the role played by young people in peace and reconciliation.

On Saturday, Sudan’s Vice President Hasabo Mohammed Abdel-Rahman welcomed plans for a reconciliation conference that will be spearheaded by local youths in mid-September.

This came in a meeting with a delegation of youths from West Kordofan last week.
