Babanusa sit-in now in second week

The sit-in protest in Babanusa town of South Kordofan state has gone for more than ten days with growing number of the protestors in front of the locality buildings. The number of protesters at the Tahrir (‘freedom’) square, so-called by the protesters, reached 4,000 last Friday, a protester called Madi Kuku said at the time. The protest today entered its 12th day. Mohamed Yusif, a member of the Babanusa youth caucus, told Radio Tamazuj that a delegation from the state government arrived last week offering some concessions to their demands. But the delegation demanded that the protesters break up before responding to the rest of the demands. The protestors refused the partial implementation of their demands and decided to continue the sit-in. Yusif further explained that they are going to escalate the demands for better services in the town and threatened to take another undisclosed next step. He further revealed that the youth who organized the sit-in have been threatened by the security authorities demanding them to stop the protest.
