The leaders of the Azande Kingdom of Western Equatoria have called for unity and support from the youth and the broader community, emphasizing the need to stop social media misuse.
The call comes ahead of the third anniversary celebration of the kingdom’s restoration.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, the head of the Lutheran Church of South Sudan and Sudan, Bishop Anibati Abia, emphasized the importance of community solidarity despite the challenges, particularly in the Tombura region.
“This is a great privilege for us,” Bishop Abia said, referring to the kingdom’s restoration.
“We must come together, support each other, and celebrate this milestone, despite the hardships we face, especially in Tombura, where many have been displaced or lost their lives. We continue to pray for peace and a better future.”
The Western Equatoria Youth Union Chairperson, Silversto Ruati, emphasized the importance of celebrating the kingdom’s restoration.
“We cannot let challenges stop us from celebrating our kingdom. This is not just about festivities; it is about a reflection on our progress and using this platform to voice our concerns,” said Ruati.
“We must avoid using social media to criticize and instead focus on constructive dialogue for the betterment of our society.”
Ruati also highlighted the role of social media in development, stressing the need for positive and meaningful discussions.
“Social media can either help us grow or tear us apart. We must focus on discussions that benefit our society, not on unnecessary arguments,” he added.
The chairman of the 3rd anniversary organizing committee explained that this year’s celebration includes the laying of a foundation stone for the royal palace in Bazungua.
“This is not just about celebrating the kingdom’s restoration; it is about laying the foundation for our future,” he said.
“Currently, the king resides on a small plot. We are mobilizing resources to build a proper palace, a place befitting our king.”
The Chairman called on the Azande community, both in South Sudan and the diaspora, to unite in support of the project.
The Azande Kingdom’s leadership is using the occasion to focus on unity, development, and moving forward. The foundation stone for the royal palace is seen as a crucial step toward the kingdom’s future, and leaders are calling for the community’s support in overcoming the challenges ahead.
