At least six people, including a Boma administrator, were killed and 10 others injured in clashes over revenue collection rights at a riverine village on the outskirts of Ayod County, Jonglei State on Friday evening, officials said.

Gabriel Tot Kai, the county SPLM party secretary-general, told Radio Tamazuj over the weekend that the incident started following a misunderstanding between two local officials.

“The incident happened on Friday evening along the White Nile in Barjath Boma, Khorwai Payam following a misunderstanding over administration between the supporters of Wuor Lony, a Boma administrator, and loyalist of Tut Kuer Bum, a fisheries director for Ayod,” Tot explained. “In the incident, the Boma administrator and five other people were killed while 10 people including a woman were injured.”

Ayod county commissioner, James Chuol Jiek, also confirmed the incident and that they were engaging authorities in Khorwai to ascertain the security situation.

“The incident happened on Friday at 5 pm. Our Boma administrator identified as Wuor Lony was killed and that’s why I don’t have full details,” he said. “There was a misunderstanding between the Boma administrator and the director for fisheries. So I had to recall the director but he declined until the incident occurred.”

Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. Elia Costa Fausino, the state police commissioner, said he was yet to get details into the incident.
