Awerial South authorities ban locally brewed alcohol

Authorities in Awerial South County of Eastern Lakes State have issued a decision banning locally brewed alcohol and illicit drugs.

Authorities in Awerial South County of Eastern Lakes State have issued a decision banning locally brewed alcohol and illicit drugs.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, Awerial South County Commissioner Philip Mawut Garang said the locally brewed alcoholic drinks and illicit drugs play a large role in criminal activities and violence.

He pointed out that the ban is aimed at controlling crimes during this festive season. “There has been a rise in crimes and killings among youth. When they are arrested they claim that they were under the influence of alcohol,” he said.

“So, we have banned marijuana (bangi) and locally-made alcoholic drinks like Siko because they are locally produced and affordable to everyone,” he explained.

Commissioner Mawut urged Awerial residents to abide by the order, saying those found in defiance will be arrested and arraigned in court.
