Authorities in South Sudan’s Lakes State have initiated an investigation after discovering a man’s body floating in the Yiil River in Mingkaman of Awerial County.
The incident prompted a swift response from the county police, who were alerted to the scene on Wednesday.
The man’s identity remains unknown, and law enforcement officials could not ascertain the duration of time he had spent in the water.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Friday, Lakes State Police Spokesman Elija Mabor Makuac said: “Well, the dead body was found in a stagnant water, and the dead body was retrieved from the riverbank, but people could not identify the deceased individual.”
The police officer further said whether the man drowned or was killed somewhere and the body dumped in the river is unclear.
“What I could advise is that people must be cautious whenever they are approaching water points. The best thing is that you better go with a person and be accompanied by someone, and you must also be careful when you are crossing,” he added.
