Aweil youth protests demotion of Bona Makuac, urges him to reject new assignment

Key and influential youth leaders in Aweil region have expressed strong discontentment with recent changes in which a security advisor was removed from his post and given a low level assignment, sparking political tension and protest of the decision of the governor.

Governor Deng Deng Akuei issued a gubernatorial order on Friday, removing Bona Makuac Mawien, a veteran politician and a long serving SPLM cadre in the area from his position.

It was not clear what prompted the governor to demote a prominent local figure.  Observers have been trying to understand the cause engineering the change. Many are wondering what could have been actual cause as Makuac has not shown any political ambition and not posing himself as potential candidate for the post.  His removal from the post has drawn anger from the youth, some of whom interpreted to mean an insult to the constituency he represents in the government and he should therefore reject the new assignment if he truly represents them.

“The re-appointment of Bona Makuach Mawien as a chairman of employee Justice is an insult to his intellectual ability and experiences in his longtime political career. This confirms that Governor Deng Deng Akuei does not have in place appropriate procedures of appointment. This is even disrespect and an insult to constituency and community where Bona come from.

Bona MUST decline the appointment period”, wrote Emir Ibn Sultan Alukerdit.

Benjamin Deng Tong, also expressed sorry to the leadership of Governor Deng Deng Akuei, saying appointed Bona Makuach Mawien deserve another higher position than as chairman of employee justice chamber. Kuom Peter described the assignment look unfair to social class of Bona's type.
