Local authorities in Aweil town have issued a local order for dogs to be killed in the town today as dog bites become more frequent in the area.

Simon Tong Deng, Aweil town Mayor, told Radio Tamazuj that the campaign will kick off today, saying stray dogs have continued to be a menace in the town.

He said yesterday. “From tomorrow we want to start our anti-rabies campaign, because dogs are threatening the people in the town, they are attacking children and the elderly,” said Tong.

He pointed out that any stray dogs found will be killed, saying rabies treatment is more expensive in the area. The mayor urged citizens to inject their dogs with the vaccine against the deadly disease.
