Aweil to eliminate ghost names from civil service payroll

Kuel Aguer Kuel, the newly appointed caretaker governor of Northern Bahr el-Ghazal, has urged the state cabinet of ministers to cooperate in eliminating ‘ghost’ names from the government payroll, saying also he will take appropriate measures against those who do not comply.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Information Minister Jackline Nyibol Ajonga said the caretaker governor had appealed to the ministers to remove names of people who appear on the pay sheet but do not turn up during working hours.

The governor did not give a timeframe for when he wanted this task complete. But he did specify that he needs each minister, director general and cashier to sit down and solve the problem of people who are on pay sheet though they are not actually working.

“If there are ministries with such things like this they should resolve them,” explained the minister.

The information minister further revealed that the caretaker governor warned that should he come across these irregularities he would not hesitate to take action.

“If it happened for him to know one time that a minister, director, or cashier is following such a practice in one of the ministries, he will make up his mind,” said the minister.

The newly appointed caretaker governor took office on Monday.
