Authorities in Northern Bahr el-Ghazal State’s Aweil South County have apprehended five members of a local gang suspected of robbing riders traveling from Tiar Aliet Payam to Aweil town on Tuesday night, a police officer confirmed.
Aweil South County Police Inspector Maj Peter Dau Thou told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday afternoon that they had arrested the five suspects on the same day.
We have apprehended 5 culprits who robbed a bag and smartphones, he said.
The police boss said the suspects would be taken to court upon the conclusion of the investigations.
Aweil South County Commissioner Luka Thel asserted that their fight against criminals was ongoing, adding that the County Government had deployed additional police across the county.
“We will not compromise with criminals because they are increasing in number and are robbing cattle, breaking into shops and looting every item they find,” said Thel.
The Commissioner stressed that they had deployed the newly graduated 100 police officers across the nine payams in Aweil South County.
He added: “Thank God, we have deployed the newly-graduated 100 police officers in all the nine payams of Aweil South County so that they deal with the criminals.”
