The local authorities in Aweil South County in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State have apprehended three family members in connection with the death of Garang Dut Bulo, 23.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Saturday, Aweil South County Commissioner Luka Thel Thel confirmed the arrests of the three relatives accused of beating the deceased who passed away on Friday.

“The three suspects who are accused of beating the deceased are Ngor Malok Angorong, his mother identified as Abuk Ngong Mamer, and his wife Adau Lual,” he said. “The three accused are now in jail in Malek Alel Prison. The victim passed away yesterday Friday at 4 p.m.”

For his part, Bona Bak, who hails from Ayai Payam in Aweil South County, said that the deceased was wounded when the attackers stormed his residence and struck him severally.

“What happened was that there was a fight between two people and the people around intervened to separate the fighters.  One of the fighters went to his house and informed his relatives that he was attacked by the late,” he narrated. “The suspect’s mother and his brother-in-law picked sticks, went to the house of the late, and struck him on the head several times.”

According to residents who witnessed the melee, the victim was taken to Ayai Primary Healthcare Unit from where he was further referred to the Aweil Civil Hospital in Aweil Town where he passed away.

Meanwhile, the Executive Director of Christian Action for Development and Support (CADS), Marko Madut Wol, condemned the incident and called for community cohesion and promotion of dialogue for amicable resolution of conflicts.

“There is no need for fighting but there are opportunities for consultations and dialogue and if there is any problem, the community members must sit down and this is how issues are solved,” he said.
