The Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA) in South Sudan’s greater Bahr el Ghazal region on Sunday launched a series of education empowerment workshops and seminars to enlighten its members on the importance of education.
The activities started in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State capital Aweil and it will be spread to other towns within the region.
Martin Marieu Pioth, the SDA Education Director for Greater Bahr el Ghazal told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that the workshop aims to encourage church members to take their children to school and adults to enroll in school.
“The education workshop aims to enlighten parents and the general public to support their children’s education. And parents also must try their best to embark on the education because there are some mothers and fathers who dropped out of school due to particular conditions. We need to encourage them because there is no age limit when comes to education,’’ said Pioth.
He called for support to all efforts towards education and urged parents and adults who dropped out of school to consider going back to class.
The headteacher for Maper Akot Seventh Day Adventist Primary School in Aweil town, Dut Deng, has welcomed the training workshops and hopes that many will take the chance to go to school.
“It is good for someone to at least read and writes even if at lower classes. A parent will be able to write their children’s names and have to read messages sent from somewhere,” he stressed.
One of the participants Maduok Manoon underscored the importance of education.
“Without education, there is no good life because education connects one with a good life. The more you are educated, the more your life becomes better. Another addition, we want to start the education at home because children are sent to schools while parents are not involved in the process,’’ said Manoon.
