Aweil town in Northern Bahr El Ghazal State received 53 families on Wednesday. The returnees to the state had lived in Sudan before attempting to migrate southward last year. They were trapped en route in Kosti in White Nile and thereafter airlifted to Juba in an operation led by the International Organization for Migration.

The Head of Humanitarian Affairs in Northern Bahr el Ghazal state Deng Kowel told Radio Tamazuj that Aweil received 53 families returning from north Sudan yesterday, explaining that their deportation was coordinated by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) after they were transferred from the port of Kosti, in which they had been stuck for months. They had also stayed nearly two months in Juba before being transferred to Northern Bahr el Ghazal.

Deng explained that the World Food Program (WFP) is going to distribute food to them in the first three months of their arrival.
