Northern Bahr el Ghazal State authorities announced that they have arrested a man suspected of nine murders along with about 20 of his associates.

The suspect, identified only as ‘Angok’, was a 1st Lieutenant in the SPLA. He and those whom he allegedly led in committing crimes of murder and robbery will be tried in a military court, according to a police source.

State Commissioner of Police Gen. Peter Mading told Radio Tamazuj that the man was last year arrested in Aweil but had managed to escape.

“Angok was arrested with 16 soldiers from both SPLA and other organized forces,” said the police official, noting that three other suspects are still at large.

“They will be tried in military court not in civil court,” Mading stated.

The commissioner also revealed that they have captured two suspected dealers of the illegal drug bangi (marijuana). The suspects are alleged to have smuggled at least 132 bars of bangi across international borders.
