Members of the Aweil state Legislative Assembly have resumed parliamentary activities after spending three months break in their constituencies.

Legislators were tasked during their leave to help implement government policies and to assess the general situation of their constituencies with the view to find out the challenges affecting their communities for deliberation upon resumption of their work in the legislative assembly.

It was not immediately clear what the legislators had found during their recess in their own constituencies. They are yet to start regular sessions during which issues identified during recess would be brought up for discussions in accordance with parliamentary procedures and regulations.
The Governor of Aweil state, Ronald Ruay Deng addressed the lawmakers during the reopening at which he congratulated the Members on their success in applying government policies in their constituencies. “Allow me to warmly welcome you back honorable members of this August House after spending three months in recess,” said Governor Ruay in his opening speech of the assembly.

Ruay called for collective work between the executive and parliament to ensure basic services are delivered to the citizens. He urges lawmakers to report any factors still affecting communities in the state. The governor announced that more than 400 bags of rice out of total 1,000 bags donated by the Chinese government to Aweil state have been looted when fighting erupted between government army and armed opposition troops under South Sudan’s former Vice President Riek Machar in July in Capital Juba.

Meanwhile the Aweil state speaker, Deng Ayom Ayom, said the assembly is committed to ensuring that services are delivered to citizens. He called on official to bring in their policies to be enacted into law. The parliament went on holiday break on 6th June this year
