Members of Aweil state Legislative Assembly have decried poor harvest attributed to overflowing and drought in some areas, sparking fears this could lead to food insecurity in the area in 2017.
Government officials and residents say major farm lands in low lying areas in the state were severely affected by floods and heavy downpour of the rain. The Aweil state Legislative Assembly Speaker, Deng Ayom Ayom, said the assembly is unhappy to see citizens face hunger once more. He added that the Parliament will work hard to ensure that state is free of hungry. The legislator did not say what the members would do to avert looming hunger. “Let you know that our state is still having problem of food security because of natural disaster such as rain flood and some low land areas are severely affected by the floods,” said Ayom during reopening of the assembly last week.
