Citizens and traders in Aweil town in South Sudan’s Northern Bahr al Ghazal State are complaining about increasing prices and scarcity of essential commodities at the market, according to a local official.
Simon Tong Deng, Aweil town mayor, told Radio Tamazuj that the market was witnessing an acute shortage of essential commodities these days, saying the ongoing economic crisis in the country has also affected his town.
The municipal official pointed out that the scarcity of some commodities caused rising prices at the market. He explained that a small bushel of sorghum costs 400 SSP, while a kilogram of sugar reached 170 SSP.
Simon added that the people of Aweil town depend on some goods that are brought by bossiness people from neighbouring Sudan these days.
