Police authorities in Aweil North County in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State are investigating the family of a woman who allegedly committed suicide in Ariath Payam on 7 September.

30-year-old Anyeng Lual Yak, a mother of three, was found hanging from a tree while her husband had traveled to Aweil town before the incident.

The Aweil North police inspector, Brigadier General Mabior Deng Deng, told Radio Tamazuj over the weekend that the family of the deceased and other residents were being investigated over the death.

“The woman called Anyeng Lual Yak, 30-years-old, who also had three children was found by people when she hanged herself from a tree. The reasons are not clear because no one disputed with her,” Gen. Deng said. “She was not an educated person to write reasons of her suicide and by this move, the police are investigating her family and we are also investigating residents and none of them has given information on what happened.”

The Ariath Payam Administrator, Reec Malong, confirmed the death but said he also stumbled on the information accidentally.

“Yes, the information is true but did not come to me on time, I just got it accidentally. The commissioner has already heard the information about the death and he conveyed the message to the state authorities,” Malong said.

Aweil North County Health Director, Dr. Joseph Atem, said, “I have talked with the people on the ground and they have confirmed that the woman committed suicide by hanging herself.”
