Local authorities accused South Sudan’s SPLA-In Opposition rebels of receiving assistance from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of the Sudanese government.

Aweil North county commissioner Kon Angok Kon said that the RSF have not crossed into South Sudan but have supported rebels under command of SPLA-IO general Dau Auterjong.

Kon said this information was obtained from captured SPLA-IO soldiers.

The commissioner added that the rebels have not taken control of any area but are present throughout the forests along the border of his state and Raja county in Western Bahr al Ghazal state.

Clashes took place last week between opposition and government forces in Aweil East and North counties.
