Authorities in Aweil North County in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State have started the distribution of chemicals to the local farmers in the fight against millipede infestation, an official confirmed.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, Aweil North County Commissioner Kiir Chan Wol said they had distributed the chemicals to help the local famers protect their crops from the millipedes.
The crops are promising and the agriculture is good, except for the millipede invasion, he said.
Wol lamented the absence of partners to support them to increase the local food production, adding that he had to travel to Juba to purchase the pesticides.
A report seen by Radio Tamazuj last month revealed that several villages in Aweil North County had been infested by millipedes.
The Count Commissioner said Majok Akook, Warchuei, Mangar Liai, and Apuok Dhel villages on the way to Kiir Adem were among those invaded by the beginning of the season in June.
