The newly appointed Minister of Information in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, Zachariah Garang Lual, has pledged to champion and uphold the freedom of media and communication in the state.
President Kiir appointed Minister Zachariah Garang Lual last week, replacing William Anyuon Kuol, who has taken on the role of National Minister of Investment and Trade.
Following his swearing-in ceremony at the Northern Bahr el Ghazal State Council of Ministers, Minister Zachariah Garang Lual expressed gratitude to Governor Tong Akeen Ngor for recommending him for the appointment.
He stated, “I am thankful to H.E Governor Tong Akeen Ngor for recommending me to H.E General Salva Kiir Mayardit, Chairman of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) party, who has appointed me as the Minister of Information and Communication in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.”
He continued, “The Ministry of Information faces numerous challenges because our citizens require effective communication from the government, and, simultaneously, information needs to flow from the people to the government. Many rural areas lack telecommunication services.”
Dot Deng Bak, representing citizens and intellectuals, expressed the hope that the newly sworn-in information minister would bring positive changes by fostering an informed citizenry.
“We anticipate improved communication and collaboration between the information minister and media outlets to keep the people of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State updated on activities,” said Deng.
