The Aweil Town Council has started to resurvey old residences of Machar Kunyuk, Maderia One, Maderia two, Ayuang and other residential areas around the town after a fire last month burned down many houses.

The fire swept through many neighborhoods without break owing to lack of spaces such as alleys and football squares. Deputy Mayor for Administration and Finance Wol Mathok Diing told journalists on Thursday that they aim to resurvey the town in a more organized way.

“We are working in many things these days at first place we did the organizing of the Aweil Market now market looks good because we opened roads and everybody is happy for the achievement we did in Aweil Market. The western part of the market is organized and just remains the eastern part of it.”

He added, “We ordered all whose shops were built with grass/thatch to build theirs with concrete building as prevention if fire erupts.”

The deputy mayor said stressed that no citizen should think that they are above the law and if any building be found in public land or built on a road it must be torn down without compromise. He noted that the town was surveyed during the old Sudan government period but many people moved onto public areas such as roads and squares.
