An Islamic leader in South Sudan’s Northern Bahr el Ghazal state is calling upon the government and rebels to amicably resolve their differences for the sake of the citizens of South Sudan.
Adam Dam, sheikh and Imam at Aweil main mosque, said the people of South Sudan have suffered a lot, adding that all parties to the conflict should work towards peace in the country.
“As religious men, we encourage our brothers in the opposition and those in the government to agree and to end hardships facing the citizens. All sides should negotiate reasonable demands for the sake of peace and the people of South Sudan,” he said.
The religious leader said South Sudanese in the country and those seeking refuge outside of the country continue to suffer due to the conflict.
The IGAD-led peace talks are now ongoing in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to resolve differences and end war in South Sudan.
