The director of Aweil state hospital, Dr. Aleu Poith Akot has said scarcity of anti-rabies drugs makes the situation “terrible”.

He told Radio Tamazuj Tuesday that the hospital had recorded so many cases of dog bites, but no treatment drugs were available.

A non-governmental organization that used to provide medicines is shutting down its operations, due to funding challenges, said Aleu.

According to the hospital director, more than 900 children received treatment from dog bites between January and September this year.

In South Sudan, increasing availability and access to the healthcare system has proved to be a challenging task for government organizations as well as to the international community.
