Governors of Aweil states from Northern Bahr el Ghazal region said no citizens from other regions or tribes in the country will be targeted as revenge to targeted ethnic killing.

Governors of Aweil states from Northern Bahr el Ghazal region said no citizens from other regions or tribes in the country will be targeted as revenge to targeted ethnic killing.

Governor Deng Deng Akuei said Thursday they held a meeting at which they came out with a unified decision to investigate the source of allegation threatening to kill citizens from other region working in the area with humanitarian organisations.

“When we heard and read in the media allegation that there youth in Northern Bahr el Ghazal region who have asked citizens of this country in the area from other region to leave, we decided to conduct investigation to try to find out who were involved but we did not find anyone. But because this rumour and allegation has created a panic for some of our citizens from other regions and tribes who are either working or living in the area, we came to clarify and assure them nothing like will happen”.

“Nobody will be targeted. The people from Equatoria in Bahr el Ghazal should not panic. They need to work normally because Bahr el Ghazal is part of South Sudan and they need not to fear. It is part of their country”, said governor Deng when asked what the authorities in the region have done to allay fear and assure safety of the citizens from other regions in the country living or working in the area.

Governor who is currently in Juba, asserted that targeting citizens would be treated a criminal act and will deal according to the law.
