Aweil State Governor Ronald Ruai Deng has called a meeting with traders on Saturday to know the reasons for rising food prices. The prices have become unaffordable for many citizens, contributing to hunger in the state.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, the Aweil Town Mayor Simon Tong Deng said the governor has called the traders for the first time to hear what are they facing. He says the traders are struggling with many factors such as the decline of the South Sudanese pound against the dollar and poor roads.
“We held a great and important meeting for the first time for the governor to call traders to know challenges facing them because prices are too high at markets and living conditions turn badly because sorghum and flour are expensive,” Tong said.
“It was a fruitful meeting that was attended by national and foreigner traders in Aweil State, we heard what is facing them such dollar increase against South Sudanese pound and poor roads and fall of South Sudanese pound against Sudanese pound,” he said.
