The governor of Aweil state Yournew Wol Kuot on Tuesday ordered all security organs to control the common border with neighboring Tonj, Gogrial and Wau states which are under the state of emergency.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, the commissioner of police in the state Gen. Elia Kosta confirmed the order saying police authorities are on high alert to top arms smuggling from the three states to Aweil state.

The police officer explained that if any solider found entering Aweil state carrying a gun without any departure order from the neighboring states will face the law.

President Kiir’s on Tuesday declared a three-month state of emergency in Gogrial, some parts of Tonj, Wau and Aweil East states.

But government officials in those states said they were not aware of reasons behind Kiir’s order declaring the state of emergency.
