Aweil governor appoints county commissioners

The governor of the proposed Aweil State has appointed county commissioners for eight newly created counties after several months of lobby by some individuals who want to be appointed as commissioners in the respective counties.

IGAD’s Council of Ministers earlier this year asked the South Sudanese government to suspend steps leading to the creation of the 28 new states but officials have proceeded with the plan anyway, including at the national and local levels.

Aweil State Minister of Information James Wieu reported the names of appointed county commissioners on Tuesday.

He said Governor Ruay Deng in his gubernatorial decree number 9/2016 last Saturda reappointed 1st Lt Deng Amoi the commissioner of Aweil South County as the new commissioner of Ajak County and former county commissioner of Aweil Centre County Col. Arkanjelo Uchu Dechak has been reappointed the new commissioner of Arroyo.

Other appointees are includes;

Col. Alfred Deng Mawien Dhal for Buonchuai County

Maj. Wilson Bol Diing for Chimel County

Maj. Lino Deng Lual Deng Akol for Kongder County

Maj. Mangok Dhieu Akuar for Ajuet County

Maj. Majok Arol Bol for Mayom Wel County

SGT. Kon Achuil Madut for Barmayen County

The minister has also said the governor has relieved Aweil town Mayor Hon. Lual Bola and replaced him with the former deputy town mayor Simon Tong Deng.

Meanwhile, the speaker of Aweil state legislative assembly Hon. Daniel Deng Ayom congratulated the newly appointed county commissioners and urged them to cooperate with the community to preach peace.

“Since they are the ones closer to the people, I would like them to be cooperating with their people and always listen to their issues. I want them also to help the government preach peace among the people,” Deng stressed.
