The government of South Sudan’s Aweil state has reiterated its commitment to exempt food commodities from taxes and customs.
The removal of tax on food items was introduced in Northern Bahr el Ghazal state by the former governor Kuel Aguer Kuel.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, the acting governor of Aweil state, Andrew Lual Buola said the council of ministers and the state legislative assembly had endorsed a policy to exempt food items from tax.
But Chimir Dut, the acting secretary general for Aweil state chamber of commerce, said customs and taxation officers are still collecting money from the exempted items.
